Do most people subscribe to the "loop" theory in Silent Hill 2?

Loop theory suggests that the characters are trapped in a never ending cycle

While this theory has merit, and the developers have dropped hints that heavily imply it, I personally don’t find it convincing. How does Laura’s character fit into this? She’s just a regular kid and not a murderer, who doesn’t see any monsters why would she be stuck in purgatory too?
