Is Pokémon series ended or only Ash’s Pokémon journey is ended?

I have just started watching the Pokémon from the start and Yes, I am totally confused because at some sources it says Ash is removed as protagonist in Pokémon and they introduced Liko and Riyo. Can anyone confirm this?
