Help me pull off a free roadside BBQ!
Howdy Pasadena, I’d like to put on a “roadside BBQ” somewhere in Altadena, dedicated for those that were impacted by the fires (but I’ll serve anyone!). Everything will be free, and I’m targeting Saturday March, 1 as the date (prob like 12pm-until food is gone). The idea is that you see the sign that says “Free BBQ!!”, pull over, and tell me what you want (menu below). Eat the food there and chat or take it to go. Whateva.
I’m looking for advice on where I should set up shop to maximize impact. I won’t need electricity or even have a smoker going, I’m going to cook everything beforehand and keep it warm (or cool) in Yeti coolers. I was thinking of setting up on the corner of Lake and Altadena; was driving through that area yesterday and there was quite a bit of traffic and people around. With it being Saturday, my hope is that there are residents going to and from their properties (a bit more so than say, a Tuesday). Any other location suggestions?
Also seeking advice on how I can get the word out to maximize turnout? I’ll be able to serve 75-100 people. Was thinking of making a more formal ‘announcement post’ here and in r/Altadena as the day-of gets closer, as well as posting on some of the Facebook groups and maybe on Nextdoor if I can bring myself to open that platform.
Here’s the rough menu, which will definitely change a bit: - Pulled Pork Sandwich with Pickle Slaw and Comeback Sauce - Classic Texas Brisket - Kansas City Cheesy Corn - Maine Baked Beans - Boston Brown Bread
