8wpo w/ Bladder Complication
Hello! Just wanted to offer some comfort to anyone who experiences complications during surgery.
To deal with YEARS of constant bleeding, I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy (everything but the ovaries) on December 30. It was quite a negative experience, in that my surgeon accidentally nicked my bladder and put a hole in it. I woke up with a catheter that I had to wear for a week. My body never got used to it, and on the second-to-last day, I ended up urgently at the uro-gyn with a UTI while the cath was still in. It was all scary, painful, and bad.
Well, I'm here to say that I'm still glad I got the surgery. My actual hysterectomy healed remarkably quickly. Even with the catheter delaying my recovery, I was back at work in 2 weeks, easily. I never bled, I never had much pain, and my cuff healed (doctor's words) "faster than it should have." My spouse and I started having sex again at 6wpo, and there was no pain or issues.
I just went back under anesthesia for a cystogram and cystoscopy, and my bladder has healed on its own. (The hospital did scratch my cornea with an oxygen mask because I'm the unluckiest person in the world, but that's neither here nor there).
If you're on the fence or scared, I say go for it. The current administration in the USA scares me to death, and as someone who never wanted kids, l feel very privileged to have had this done. My bleeding issue has been cured, and it was only through the surgery that they discovered the cause (a previously undetected fibroid and inactive/dysfunctional endometrial tissue). I didn't expect this, but I seem to have permanently lost 5 lbs, too! Finally, while my ovaries are still cycling, the severity of my menstrual migraines has dropped.
Even having gone through arguably the worst week of my life thanks to that surgeon, I'm STILL glad I did this. Whatever you're going through, it will pass!
