My tears for Wrigley
I just finished Season 2, and I’m deeply moved. My tears aren’t for the flawed characters, but for Wrigley. He was my favorite, and his struggles were so overlooked. In reality, we all know someone like him; we need to listen and recognize when they’re not okay.
Wrigley constantly worried about Drew, yet his friends dismissed his concerns, telling him to calm down. When he used drugs, no one intervened, but they were quick to criticize his behavior when he was under the influence. He had no plans for the future and was the most melancholic character in the series. He was just a college boy trying to have fun, but his life saddened me more with each episode.
When he needed help studying, everyone refused. When he was concerned about Drew, others acted like everything was fine. Jealous Stephen manipulated him into bad decisions. No one told him to stop using drugs. His heart broke seeing Pippa and Diana together, and no one was there for a genuine conversation. He faced a knee injury, forcing him to give up the one thing he loved most: football.
Wrigley wasn’t a bad friend; on the contrary, he was good to everyone, yet many betrayed him. I cherished his relationship with Pippa and loved that, after years, he still had feelings for her.
Honestly, I see a lot of us in Wrigley: lost, depressed, surrounded by fake friends, with no plans for the future, and so on.
