How do i maintain/prevent rust on my claymore?

Hello everyone, im a complete beginner when it comes to owning swords, and i plan to get my first sword, the hanwei claymore.

Im not going to use it in actual blade to blade contact, but rather just use it to cut basic targets and have it on display.

Ive seen people say you should use oils like mineral oil to prevent rust on the blade, is this true? How do I apply it? Do it let it sit on the blade or do I wipe some of it off?
