Chapter three

As the birds chirped and the crickets buzzed in the quiet evening, the eldest child, the dark one, hesitated before asking his grandfather, “Should I be afraid? For tomorrow?”

The old man, his hands calloused from years of toil, looked at his grandchild and smiled kindly. “No, of course not, my dear. But, would you like me to explain what will happen tomorrow?”

The child nodded, his eyes wide with curiosity, and the grandfather began, his voice slow and deliberate, as though he had told this story a thousand times but never tired of it.

“Tomorrow is an important day, one that will shape your future. You see, the Sigil is not just something you gain; it becomes a part of you. It’s an important part of who you are. It’s something that exists inside your mind, a mark that represents your potential. A Sigil is made up of six shards, and these shards determine the abilities, or Rebels, you can have.”

He paused for a moment, the crackle of the fire the only sound between them. “At the center of the Sigil is the Vital Shard. This shard is special because it always contains a Rebel. It’s the first ability you gain when your Sigil forms. The Vital Shard is the heart of the Sigil, and the Rebel it holds depends on the person, but there’s always one there.”

The child listened intently, his gaze unwavering, as the grandfather continued.

“Surrounding the Vital Shard are five other shards. These don’t always hold a Rebel, but they have the potential to. These shards are like empty spaces waiting to be filled. If you grow stronger, challenge yourself, and push your limits, these shards might start to hold Rebels as well. It’s rare for all five shards to hold a Rebel, but it can happen with time and effort.”

The grandfather leaned back, his eyes soft but knowing. “But don’t rush. The Sigil will shape you, and you will shape it. Tomorrow, you’ll take your first step.”

The child nodded slowly, the weight of the moment settling in. No longer just an ordinary day—tomorrow would be the beginning of something much greater. Something that would change everything.
