Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who‘s really irked whenever it‘s so obvious that the author just wants the MC to seem really smart? Most of the time it makes the character so awkward and unrealistic, so I immediately quit reading. I don‘t understand why an average office worker or highschool student would be so intelligent that they can easily manipulate everyone around them unless they were some sort of genius in their previous lifes. An annoying side effect of this is the dumbing down of every other character. I don‘t find that enjoyable at all. I’d rather have an idiot with a kind heart as the MC than that.

I‘m talking about "the villainess is a marionette“ in this case.
