History of substance abuse addiction. Calling an Army recruiter later today, what should I expect?
Hello, I am a 28 year old male, and have felt a calling to join the Army. My brother, uncles, father, & aunt all were in the Army. I have strong desire to continue that legacy, while serving my country. However, I have three things that I know won’t make it easy to get it. I would like to know how much of these I should disclose:
1) I have been to about a dozen in-patient rehabs in the last 5 years for cocaine & opiates. I have currently been sober for just over 3 months.
2) I currently have a charge on my record for “Cyber Sexual Harassment”, which was due to me releasing a sex tape of myself & my ex while in a blackout. I completed probation January 1st, and it will be expunged in 6 months. I was never technically convicted.
3) I also have a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge from 10 years ago
Also I have a bachelors degree and am fluent in Spanish. Don’t know if those would help me at all.
Please advise! Regardless of what the commends are, I am going to call the recruiter tomorrow. I just want to know how honest I should be, and if I can expect to move forward with the recruiter at all.
