Truly asking - how do we find middle ground?

I’m the daughter of two people from (to put it nicely) f*cked up countries. Tonight they reminded me of why remembering your “opponent” / “enemy” / “[insert appropriate term here]” is another human being generally trying to do their best is so important.

So I’m asking. How do we figure out (or try to figure out) how to move forward in a way that works the best for the most of us? I understand nothing will be perfect (humans being humans and all) but I genuinely want to understand what people on the opposite side of the division feel about how we can potentially find a middle ground.

I will acknowledge I’m absolutely not perfect on this issue. I’m pretty liberal and pretty feminist and can definitely get snarky on these issues. But I promise I will respond with good faith to anyone who tries to meet my question with good faith. Because we’re seemingly stuck with each other for another ~70-80 years so I’d like to not hate half of our generation that long if possible.
