Overwatering?
So, every summer around July and August when it gets hottest, I must do my walking in the early morning and after sunset (I have an older dog with a thick coat, she really struggles at other times).
I always encounter the awful watering practices of this city. I've even contacted the city about it. Not only are sprinklers completely dousing vast stretches of sidewalk on both sides of the street (in my area at least) so you must walk in the bike lane to avoid being covered in rotten smelling irrigation water--at night, but this is a massive waste of water.
We know we're running out of water. We see what this will look like for us not far down the road (California), and we continue to drain our water or redirect our water to water lawns. We know companies are buying up our water so that when there isn't enough, they can profit off our need. Yet, no plans that I'm aware of to start curtailing this issue.
I know there are a literal ton of people who will stamp their feet and cry about moving to a post-lawn society, but this is a serious problem that we can't just stick our heads in the sand on. We are very quickly heading to our yearly fires heading into towns and cities and causing mass evacuations like we saw in LA.
I wonder--what should be done?
