Meta: Reddit's CEO plans to let subreddits opt to hide behind paywalls. What's is r/fantasy's plan to prevent that from happening so this community remains open to everyone?
This is my favorite subreddit. One of the reasons I enjoy coming here is that the mods do an excellent job moderating it and keeping this community open. I read this article today which says that the Reddit CEO wants to begin allowing subreddits opt into hiding behind a paywall to earn money. Reddit is the only social media site I still use because the others have gone the way of pushing monetized content and ads to its users. I can imagine a scenario where, overtime, popular subreddits such as r/fantasy are taken over by people applying to be mods with the end goal of trying to turn a profit on them.
Moving forward, what is the moderation teams position on this and what plans will be put in place to help prevent this from happening?
