Elderly Dog with nasty eye
I have a chihuahua that is 14 years old (15 next month). She has had cataracts/glaucoma for about five years now, with that hazy look over her eyes.
For the past three days, she has had pus like discharge coming from her eyes. The whites of her eyes are red, and she can hardly keep them open at times. She's been eating very little. The past two, she's refused to eat. She lays in her bed, and only gets up to pee. Now, she's even started to refuse water, so we've been giving her it through a syringe, as well as chicken broth.
I know I have to take her to a vet asap, but it's not possible until I get paid in the next few days. Until then, I want to know what I could do to help her feel better. I know she's reaching the end of her life, and that she has other medical issues, but her eyes are my biggest concern at this point. I can tell she's afraid to walk because of the discharge from her eyes. I've been cleaning it as much as possible without her being in pain, wiping with qtips and using a flush solution for dogs. Is there anything else I can do until I can get her to a vet?
