Legendary Bows are Currently the Least Used Archetype of Weapons and it's not Even Close.
Bows have a strange place in the Destiny 2 sandbox, being very different from most other weapons in the game. Introduced in Forsaken, I can't seem to recall bows (outside of exotics) ever having a solid place in the meta. Primary weapons as a whole outside of smg's struggled for a long time after the shadowkeep changes and have only more recently in lightfall started receiving buffs to compete in our power crept sandbox. After remembering their buffs in lightfall and final shape (final shape saw the removal of spec mods so their buffs weren't as large as they seemed) alongside some good primary buffs this episode, I've been experimenting with using them more in my loadouts. Hand cannons and pulse rifles have been very good since their large buffs and I think auto rifles and scouts are now viable options given their buffs in heresy. Bows on the other hand are not doing well at all and if you venture into any sort of power delta'd content, you see why very quickly.
Heading into the hydroponics delta lost sector on neomuna, you see a slight -10 power delta. For reference, a lot of recent activities such as battlegrounds and vanguard ops playlist has us at a -5 so we are talking very slight increase. Within the lost sector, my raconteur bow could not one shot an unshielded legionary. It could also not one shot the yellow bar psions (it just barely two shots them). Against red bars, bows have been "serviceable" for a while, but the numerous buffs to other primaries have left them feeling really bad. Against majors, bows are what I would describe as dog water. I have been impressed with Bungie's attention to the sandbox recently and I'm sure they will be buffed sometime in the future, but for now they are easily the least used and worst archetype of weapon in the game. Listed below is the usage/kills rate for the most popular legendary bow versus other primary archetypes. These numbers are acquired from Destiny tracker.
Non-Denouement is the most popular legendary bow with a usage rate of 0.0799% and a kills rate of 0.175%
VS Pyroelectric Propellant is the most popular legendary auto rifle with a usage rate of 0.743% (9x to 10x more usage) and a kills rate of 1.40% (about 18x more kills). Aside from this auto, there are 20 legendary auto rifles with higher usage than N-D
Zaolis Bane is the most popular legendary hand cannon with a usage rate of 0.443% (roughly 6x more usage) and a kills rate of 0.769% (roughly 10x) Aside from this HC, there are 14 legendary hand cannons with higher usage than N-D
Vantage point is the most popular legendary pulse rifle with a usage rate of 0.414% (roughly 5x) and a kills rate of 0.605% (roughly 9x) Aside from this pulse, there are 8 legendary pulses with higher usage rates than N-D
Live Fire is the most popular legendary scout with a usage rate of 0.178% (a bit more that 2x) and a kills rate of 0.117% (actually less, surprised by this). However, if we look at the next few popular scouts, they absolutely slaughter the next most popular bows. Hung Jury is the next scout with a usage rate of 0.140% and a kills rate of 0.118%. Neoptolemus is the next bow at 0.0843% (slightly higher usage than N-D) but kills at 0.0481%. After this we have accrued redemption with 0.0203 usage and 0.0192 kills. After Hung Jury, there are 16 scout rifles with more usage than accrued.
Breachlight is the most popular legendary sidearm (not rocket) with a usage rate of 0.320% (roughly 4x) and a kills rate of 0.292% (a bit less than 2x, which isn't much, but akin to scouts if we look at the next most used sidearm in heliocentric, it slaughters neoptolemus and the trend continues).
Multimach CCX is the most popular legendary smg with a usage rate of 1.15% (over 10x) and a kills rate of 1.49% (roughly 19x more kills). After this smg, there are 12 legendary smg's with higher usage rates than N-D.
If you read this far, and are thinking that usage rates aren't indicative of power and people use what they like, I refer you to Queenbreaker this season. Not a single soul was using that thing until it got substantially buffed and we have particle reconstruction. It is now the most used weapon across all of PvE. Bows are not currently in the artifact, but neither are any primaries outside of sidearms and vex mythoclast. I understand that bows are niche given their difference to every other primary in our sandbox, but if they were good within their niche I don't think we'd have this large of a disparity in usage rates. The game around bows has sped up so fast, having to two shot a minor tier enemy in slightly delta'd content when you could just consecrate it and everyone its ever loved is a very very hard sell. Bungie has been killing it with their sandbox updates recently, hopefully bows get to see some of that love soon.
