Currently have 7 cards with ~130K spend/yr. Want to simplify this down to 2.

Hey folks. As the title says, goal is to drastically simplify credit card setup (preferably 2 but max 3 'active' cards only - I don't care about sockdrawer cards).

Just finished aggregating my yearly expenses for 2024, so have some pretty accurate spend numbers (all are for whole yr):

Rent: 50K

Online subscriptions: 4K

Health & Medical: 6K

Groceries: 9K

Restaurants: 30K (I cover for friends at restaurants and they Venmo me back so 10K of this is from friends)

Travel: 20K (this year it'll prob be a bit higher, likely ~25K)

Electronics: 4K (~2K for Apple stuff on average per year + ~1.5K for camera stuff - so Adorama/BH/etc.)

Uber/Lyft: 3.5K

Clothing: 2K

Taxes: 0 (this year it'll likely be ~20K in 4 quarterly payments)

Those were all the relevant categories I could think of. Most of the other ones are too small or just bought from Amazon.

Current cards are:

Amazon (don't intend to replace this, nor do I consider it part of 2-3 'active' cards I want to simplify to since this just stays in the drawer and only used for Amazon + 5% is hard to beat)

Apple (currently only for Apple product 0% APR + iOS/macOS subscriptions)

BILT (only rent)

CFU (main 'everything else' card)

CSR (travel + dining)

AmEx EveryDay (to keep my MR points from when I had Plat + Gold - sock drawer otherwise)

CVX (put one trip on this and it becomes 'no AF' so have kept it so far)

Considerations:

Don't want business cards. Credit score is ~790s. Chase 1/24 currently.

Goals:

Want to reduce everything down to 2-3 cards. Prob one for everything, one for travel + dining. Maybe a third card if it's got a great category that I have a lot of spend on that would be worth it.

Don't care for the coupon book, nor the random Dunkin/Grubhub shit. Otherwise I meet a lot of what the Gold targets lol. Do go to a lot of Resy/Tock/OpenTable restaurants (2-3/month). Used to have like 10K/yr UberEats/Doordash spend but focused on health in 2024 so now that's 0 - and hopefully to remain that way (but can still use all the Uber/Lyft credits easily for ridesharing).

For cards like BoA or Smartly, open to parking 100K wherever (or even both if that proves to be ideal setup).

Edit: Oh and forgot to add. For at least the travel card, def no FTF. Would also like some of the other benefits if possible (travel protection, insurances, and so on).

Main thing though: I don't care much for finding random travel 'deals' for points that crop up occasionally. I have very set, very specific dates I want to plan my travels around. Mostly the long weekends + when my friends are able to come. I'm perfectly OK with paying a bit more, hell even double, for travel if it saves me PTO. Right now my barrier on travel is time, not money, so trying to optimize for that. So most of those eye popping 10x deals YouTubers are talking about are irrelevant to me. CSR last year was nice though cause I could redeem at 1.5x from their portal. New setup would (hopefully) have to beat that.

Anyways, that's all the details. Hopefully the more knowledgeable folks here can give me some good suggestions on a card setup I can go with for the long run (will prob keep using it for many years - until the benefits change or my spending habits do). Please let me know if you need any more info, happy to provide it.

Thank you in advance!
