Question about past quarterly US Bank Cash+ reward categories vs. new "personalized" brand options
Hi y'all!
I've had my US Bank Cash+ card for a really long time, like since 2014-ish. I remember in the past when I picked my quarterly cash back rewards categories, I had options that were like (for example), 5% cash back on gas, 2% cash back on groceries and fast food, 1% on everything else, et cetera et cetera.
I'm trying to pick my quarterly categories now, and I'm no longer seeing options for a whole category, like "gas" meaning all gas stations, or "groceries" meaning all grocery stores. Now the only options I can see on the app and on the US Bank site are these new "personalized" and brand-specific things. So instead of getting to pick "gas" as a 2% cash back category, I'm now only given options like "BP" or "Shell" which would greatly limit the cash back I'd get when I put gas in my car if I don't use specific stations like that.
I've done some sleuthing here on Reddit and elsewhere, and I can't find any other questions addressing this. Did this program do away with "categories" altogether (and if not, where are they now)? Is it instead forcing you to choose from their arbitrary list of brand options (literally none of which I have ever bought or will buy anything from)? Anyone else feeling as confused and mystified as I am?
