Another Set of Strategies: Making and Thrifting
Hi again folks – I have been loving the positive CAN-do (pun intended) attitude in this sub; both from Canadians and international allies (THANK you. 🙏🍁❤️)
As we've discussed at length, cutting out everything American is a tough challenge. We've had to choose other international products, and how Canadian (raw materials, labour, ownership) something can realistically be.
But if you're stuck, there's another set of strategies as old as time: reuse, repair, or make/grow it yourself!
Modern society is very wasteful; There's a lot of stuff that could be repaired/refurbished but isn't because it's not economically feasible to do so. Likewise, I purchased a 3D printer mid-last year, and although that isn't an option for everyone (or even many), it has saved me buying lots of cheap plastic goods online, since I can just make them myself.
Spring is around the corner. If you have the space, why not start a victory garden and produce food in your own backyard?
We don't know how bad this is going to get or how long its going to go on for. I recommend at least "trying out" some of these strategies sooner rather than later. You never know when we might be relying on some of them.
