Help choosing graft?
I (26F) tore my ACL fully last week, was in a knee immobilizer until Thursday when I met with my doctor. He told me I have three or four options when it comes to the replacement: patellar, quad graft, allograft, or (his least favorite) the hamstring graft. I’m leaning towards the quad graft and my partner is leaning toward the allograft because of the faster recovery time and less pain. Idk how I feel about it, and doctor said it’s not great for young people and has the potential to not take.
Here’s my issue: I’ve heard/read/been told by multiple people at work that the patellar graft is very very painful and can impact kneeling for the rest of your life. I live to ski (lol except this year and probably next 🥲) and play Ultimate for most of the year. I really want to be back to normal-ish (walking unaided) by September (for a work class) and I have the appointment to “discuss my surgery options” at the end of February. If anyone has any strong feelings, I’d love to hear them. No one in my family has gone through this and most of the people I work with are the same age as my parents.
